Learn How Air-Lock Prevents Contamination in Drums

What was once a liability can be turned into reliabilty with Air-Lock.
Oil drums are the standard for storing and transporting lubricants, even if they have some serious shortcomings. They breathe, which allows contaminants and water to make their way into your lubricant. Air-Lock stops this by adding a small amount of positive air pressure to your drum. No specialty tools, batteries or apps required. Simply pressurize using a basic air compressor and Air-Lock goes to work right away, preventing contaminants from making their way in.

“I would Recommend air-lock. It's an inexpensive solution to understanding your drum storage and [keeps] your oil clean while it's in storage.”

Air-Lock is a patented device that replaces a standard drum plug and turns your oil container into a controlled, pressurized environment. Once installed on the drum, it uses low-pressure air to protect the headspace above the oil from dust, humidity, and other contaminants that typically enter through breathing vents or loose bungs
After Air-Lock is fitted, a small amount of air—typically just 1 to 2 PSI—is introduced into the drum via the built-in valve. This gentle pressurisation in the headspace creates an invisible barrier: as long as the internal pressure stays higher than ambient pressure, contaminants cannot migrate into the drum.

In practice, that means airborne dust, water vapour, and process debris are pushed away from the opening instead of being drawn in every time the temperature changes or the drum is moved. The result is a contamination-free storage environment that helps maintain lubricant cleanliness from the moment the drum is filled until the oil is dispensed.

Air-Lock prevents Contamination before it starts.

Even small amounts of particle and moisture contamination can accelerate wear, increase varnish formation, and shorten lubricant life in critical assets. By stopping contaminants at the drum—before they can enter transfer containers, sumps, or reservoirs—Air-Lock supports longer oil life, more stable viscosity, and more predictable equipment performance.

Because Air-Lock prevents contamination using only low-pressure air and a mechanical seal, it adds protection without introducing desiccants to replace, breather elements to monitor, or complex hardware that can fail. For maintenance teams, that means a simple “fit and forget” upgrade to drum storage that delivers cleaner oil and fewer lubrication-related failures.
